Tuba B. from the University of Ottawa talks to Dr. Caroline Ménard a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine in the CERVO LAB at Laval University where she investigates the root causes of brain diseases. Most recently, Dr. Ménard led projects investigating the neurobiology of stress vulnerability and resilience and the development of mood disorders. In this interview, Dr. Ménard describes her research on biological measures that can help to establish a diagnostic test on mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. She explains the connection between resilience/vulnerability to stress in the development of major depressive disorder (M.D.D.). Dr. Ménard reveals certain differences that men and women experience during depression. We discussed the reasons why some people respond poorly to current antidepressants and the causes for this resistance.
